Location: Remote, working within CET ± 2 hours
Reports to: Our CEO directly until our Growth & Business Ops Officer is full-time late October.
Engagement: Full-time or 4 days, open to either
We are a travel and events platform. People discover and book properties, form groups, split payments, and buy tickets to events we and our partners run. We are a small team, venture-backed, incorporated in Estonia, with customers across Europe and beyond. Money moves through Stripe, two banks and a network of property managers, in several currencies and several tax jurisdictions.
You will own the financial operating cycle end to end. That means the books close on time every month, the tax filings are right and on time, the money we are owed actually arrives, and the numbers the board sees can be trusted. You will be the only person inside the company whose full attention is on this, working alongside our outsourced accounting provider, our tax advisers and our lawyers rather than doing everything yourself.
This is a build role as much as a run role. Much of what this function does today is manual, and we are automating a large part of it. You will operate and quality-check those automated outputs, and help specify what gets built next with our CTO. If you want a job where the process is already designed and you execute it, this is not that. If you want to design it, it is.
The monthly close. All documentation into our systems by the 5th of each month so our accounting provider can close the books. In practice this means chasing receipts and invoices from people who do not report to you, correcting miscodings, and holding the deadline. This is the hard part of the job and the part candidates usually underestimate, so we would rather say it plainly.
Revenue and VAT. Monthly Stripe settlement data turned into per-country VAT treatment, sales invoices to our property-manager partners, and the underlying determination of where each customer is resident.
Tax and statutory compliance. Estonia (TSD, KMD and VD filings, Commercial Register), Spain (VAT registration and quarterly returns) and EU OSS, coordinated through our providers. Two near-term projects: a UK VAT registration and an Estonian TOMS registration for our reseller model.
The annual audit. We are audited. You will run the document request list, the management representations, the related-party schedule and the annual report filing. Someone who has been through a statutory audit before will find this much easier than someone who has not.
Collections. Commissions, deposits and receivables from partners and counterparties. Some of this requires cheerful persistence over months.
Payroll and contractor administration, via Deel, alongside our People lead.
Treasury operations. Cash monitoring across two banks, deposit rollovers, and keeping funding transfers scheduled.
In a small team it is worth being explicit. You will not be doing the bookkeeping yourself - we have an outsourced provider for that. You will not own FP&A strategy, the budget model or investor reporting; that sits with our Growth & Business Ops Officer. You will not be a bank signatory. You are not expected to be a qualified tax adviser - you are expected to know when to ask one.
Roughly 7-10 years in finance operations, financial control or a similar role, including time in a company small enough that you had to design the process rather than inherit it.
Direct experience owning a monthly close against a hard deadline.
Real exposure to Stripe or comparable payment infrastructure, and to cross-border payments. Reconciling a payment processor to a ledger should be familiar territory.
EU VAT in more than one jurisdiction. Estonian statutory experience is a genuine differentiator and we will weight it heavily.
Comfort operating and sanity-checking AI-generated finance outputs, and the judgement to notice when one of them is wrong. You do not need to be technical; you do need to be sceptical.
Fluent written English, and the confidence to chase a founder for a receipt.
Estonian language.
Experience with SmartAccounts, Envoice, Deel, Carta or Revolut Business.
Travel, hospitality or marketplace background.
Having worked with an outsourced accounting provider before.
We operate as a fully remote company, enabling work-from-home for all team members. We give all team members 25 days of paid time off, an additional paid week off provided by Buenro, participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and access to at-cost accommodations at Buenro's global bases around the world.
